So Far From My Home (re-release)

This is a song about feeling like a rootless drifter, something I've often felt in my life. It's also about rising above that feeling, and deciding to give life everything you have got.

We recorded it at Sputnik Studios in Antwerp. I was in one room, playing guitar and singing at the same time, with Quinten on acoustic bass near me, separated by some screens. Tom was on drums in the other room. At home, I overdubbed keyboards, backing vocals, horns and the sax solo at home, and that is the version on the YouTube video below. I used some (quite bad quality) video of the Sputnik Session, and free footage from pexels.com.

re-release

Later on, I replaced the original acoustic bass with electric bass, add more keyboard parts and remixed and remastered. That is the latest version, released on streaming platfroms in March of 2024. I think that the overall production sounds better - fuller and smoother. (There is also a stripped down "acoustic mix" - and somehwre I have a real acoustic version which I need to dig out ... )
